WinLegends, also known as Legends of Runeterra or simply LoR, is a digital collectible card game developed by Riot Games, Inc., the same creators of League of Legends (LoL) and Valorant. Released in 2020 for PC, it offers an immersive experience that blends strategy and fantasy elements.
Origins and History
Legends of Runeterra was first announced on February 22nd, 2019, through a short video titled “A New Region is Born” posted on the official LoL https://casinowinlegends.ca/ Twitter account. Riot Games’ intention to create this digital collectible card game (CCG) aimed at capitalizing on its successful experience in creating large-scale online gaming communities with League of Legends.
LoR was later revealed as an original intellectual property, not directly related to LoL or any other existing franchise under the Riot umbrella. Runeterra is the fictional continent created specifically for this universe and consists of distinct regions inspired by various cultures from around the world. These regions have their own unique art styles, characters, and storylines.
The beta version of WinLegends/LoR was launched in July 2019 with a limited set of playable cards (previously known as ‘champions’) from Ionia and Freljord regions. A soft launch for Australia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Taiwan, and Vietnam took place in April 2020.
How WinLegends Works
WinLegends is based on the concept of collecting virtual trading cards featuring unique characters, abilities, and enhancements from the Runeterra world. Players construct decks by acquiring these digital cards using a variety of means, including purchases from an online store or rewards within the game itself for progress milestones.
Deck Building
A typical deck consists of 60 cards with various types (units, spells) distributed between four color categories: Blue – Aeries; Red – Aggression; Green – Growth; and Purple – Neutrality. The actual strategy revolves around card synergy, meaning players try to synergize units that work well together in battle.
Gameplay
Turns proceed as follows:
- Card Play : Draw seven cards from your deck’s pile.
- Minion Deployment : Spend available mana (magic energy) and play minions onto the board.
- Spellcasting : Use spells for various purposes such as clearing enemy minions, changing minion types or attributes, drawing more cards etc.,.
Victory conditions depend on game settings but usually involve reducing your opponent’s health points to zero first. Alternatively, if both opponents’ health levels drop below three simultaneously (i.e., they are ‘crippled’) the player with more HP wins the match.
Legal and Regional Context
Riot Games was founded in 2006 by Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill; its success comes largely from LoL’s huge player base. With over a decade of gaming industry experience under their belt, Riot has now entered into new territory through Legends of Runeterra/WinLegends with strategic partnerships that have expanded this universe beyond borders.
Regional specifics remain limited in terms available information but evidence suggests localization efforts targeting various cultures across diverse regions are part and parcel of its competitive approach to market expansion.
